Let’s (try to) swim from Vashj’ir to Dun Morogh

Oh, I have been looking so much forward to this one.

It’s been ages, since I did a Let’s swim. I guess I might have been a tad discouraged. Though it’s the journey that matters, and not all the invisble walls I swam into, right 🙂

During the making of the newest episode of The Seacrew, I noticed something, in Vashj’ir in the distance. It wasn’t even that far ahead, right?

Dun Morogh looked so close…

So off I went…(N’aaaw look at those two, ain’t they cute)

Right, so, the journey begins, here…

It’s really, really close. I won’t even have to worry about the Fatigue bar, I thought to myself. I did wonder, where and when that invisble wall would hit me though…

A shot of the waters I was leaving. (Vashj’ir has a “buff to your swimming speed” after you have done the first quests in the area, so I was swimming incredibly fast.)

After technically “leaving” Vashj’ir, the entire environment changed. Nothing but sand. Gone are the lush underwater gardens.

How does it look at nighttime? I am glad you ask. But I am far too intimidated by the depths of the ocean to find out. But here is a few screenshots of it, before I toggled off the effect again…

At this point, I started hearing Westfall music.

So odd! I was in “The Great Sea” though, and I can remember from my last time in Vashj’ir, when I died, I got teleported to a graveyard in Westfall.

Maybe it is the default place one ends up in, when they are too far off?

Beginning to get really close to land. No Fatigue bar yet either!

But, there it is…

WoWScrnShot_120417_100344

I make it to here…

I take one look back towards Vashj’ir…

Because, I made it! I actually made it. NO WALLS.

WoWScrnShot_120417_100425

That is right.

No invisble walls.

No “different continents are seperate from one another”.

None of that!

I have been swimming in the oceans of Azeroth for as long as I can remember. I made a lot of posts on it too. And never before have I managed to swim between the “expansions” this way.

Look where I ended up!

Oh, this, now, this screenshot. Oh, one of my absolute favorite ones so far, I love how it turned out. Look at that water effect from the flippers, the sun and everything just coming together…

Hello Dun Morogh…And, what IS that? That little house – you see it?

WoWScrnShot_120417_100712

Here you can see the Fatigue bar ALMOST got me…

WoWScrnShot_120417_100719

But, back again…Because what IS this little house?

WoWScrnShot_120417_100747

Someone unfortunate must have crashed here, making it impossible for them to get back…

WoWScrnShot_120417_100844

There was no fire in the fireplace…

WoWScrnShot_120417_100857

In fact, there was something far more gruesome.

A little slideshow to give an insight into the area and house.

I do really wonder who used to live here.

Who were they?

I think Eom of Silvermoon over at WoW-stories.com might have a story waiting to be told here.

Look, you can spot Stormwind from here 🙂

And I could swim all the way there too…

Let’s end with a shot of Stormwind at night 🙂

What a tour. I had no idea it would be possible, and I got so excited. I thought I could remember attempting this once, but I guess not. Or maybe it got changed? Oh, the places I want to try now…

Have a great monday everyone 🙂

  1. Yay! I’m glad, too, that that swim is actually possible! It seems like it ought to be, because all of the other Cataclysm leveling zones can be accessed by riding or flying from neighboring zones in Eastern Kingdoms or Kalimdor.
So it ought to be possible to swim the other way, from Dun Morogh to Vashj’ir, too… maybe it would be wise to find that place on the Dun Morogh shore that you ended up on, to be sure of crossing the distance at the shortest point and not get completely overcome by Fatigue?

    1. I am glad to hear, thank you so much for saying that. I do too, it has been far too long since my last one. It’s one of the most unique things I do in game, I think. Fun what it means to become an Orca insted of a Sea Lion.

  2. Lovely screenshots as always!

That undersea area, on the western shores of Dun Morogh, is my favorite place in whole Azeroth, so far. Though, I was never able to reach there yet; that’s why it keeps calling me. From what I could see so far, there’s really nothing remarkable, but it is not what is seen that calls me, it is what is not seen. I hope I will write that story one day.

Long ago, a friend and I flew from Dun Morogh to Vashj’ir on the back of a dragon, good memories…

I have seen that house before, during my swim from Stormwind to Gilneas long ago, but after reading your post, I now have to check it again, who knows what inspiration it might bring now.

Also, thank you for the mention 🙂
