World of Warcraft – Alunaria’s Tips and Tricks

During my comeback to World of Warcraft in Legion, I have discovered a few things along the way, while slowly questing through Mist of Pandaria and Draenor as well, that improve my weekly adventures.

I rarely visit a lot of other WoW sites, so granted, some of the tips I want to share in this post might be knowledge to everyone. But here goes – if it just helps one person, then it’s worth it, right 🙂

Class Trial Character vs. Pet Master Trainers

Tricks7.jpg

You can use your Class Trial Character to level up your Pets!

I just found this out, trying to get ready to take on the pets on Argus.

That’s right, no more flying about on one character; just place your Class Trial Character at the Trainer (Don’t forget to send over the Lesser Pet Treat and Pet Treat for the increased XP gain)

It also is the best way to optimize the XP buff from the treats; no time wasted on flying around anymore. (My Pet Charms are my Precious, right now, so whatever little I can do to save them, I will)

Since the flying changes in the last patch, Class Trial Characters have access to all of your flying achievements obtained, so chances are, you can take them right into the skies in Pandaria and Draenor as well.

Shipyard Fishing

Tricks1.jpg

Want to complete the Angler Achievements connected to Draenor? (Catch 100 of various fish)

Speed the process up by equipping all your ships with the Tuskarr Fishing Net! Simple as that. Sometimes I even catch a lot with each Mission.

Garrison Invasions for the lazy

Tricks9.jpg

Protecting your Garrison is hard work. But it doesn’t have to be!

All of your Guards now scale to your level, so at 110, they are perfectly capable of defending it all on their own, and with a decent score too. I discovered it by accident, as I started an Invasion and then had to sort a customer call, so I was afk during the entire thing.

I just had to take care of the “boss” like thing in the end.  (Gosh, what is up with the low droprate on those real-boss-summoning things they used to drop!?)

You can proc a Garrison invasion, almost guaranteed, by completing one of the Missions you “buy” at Sergeant Crowler in your Garrison for doing a Bonus Objective.

Druid’s Dreamwalk – It’s a two way street

Trick10.jpg

When you are doing an old Raid or Dungeon, and need to get to the start of it, after having cleared it – you can use your Dreamwalk ability. Simply use it, then use it again, and you’ll be right at the start of the Dungeon!

So handy 🙂

This one used to work with Teleport:Moonglade too, so I guess it isn’t new, but it deserves a spot on the list.

For none-Druids, as

Less clutter – easier to spot the Items you need

Trick12

Trick13

When doing the Mist of Pandaria farm, I began to notice, how your Settings in Ground Clutter matter.

If you have this set all the way to minimum, spotting the Dirt around the Valley of the Four Winds is far easier, as these items stand out against the flowers and what not together with it, once you fly up – since the clutter is less on minimum settings.

Just a handy little thing overall, when hunting for items that might not shine up and catch your eye too easily.

Class Trial Characters and appearances

Tricks8.jpg

Ever felt like rolling a new Class, but the thought of not having anything nice to wear puts you off?

Class Trial Characters to the rescue once more. If you are like me, and have no Mail/Plate/Cloth wearer at high enough level to wear all of your BoE armor you loot during old Dungeons and what not, you can just send it over to your Class Trial Character and there you have it; equip it and the apperance is now forever in your wardrobe, waiting to adorn your new real character!

Argus flying (Well, sort of!)

Trick11.jpg

Do you feel stuck on Argus from time to time, with no way out? Then this item is for you!

The item “Falling Flame” (a drop from a rare spawn on the Timeless Isle) actually work on Argus. It shoots you far into the distance. (Beware though. When I say far, I mean, far!)

Portal privilege

Tricks2.jpg

Did you accidentially take the Portal to Ironforge instead of Stormwind?

Just take the Portal to Hellfire Peninsula and then go back – and there you go; you are in Stormwind 🙂

Make the most out of your PvP Pet Battles

Tricks6.jpg

Do your weekly PvP Bet Pattles (And your PvP Pet Battle Achievements) on a levelling Character instead of your main.

My gnome hasn’t completed a single quest, yet she is already level 5. (It might not be a lot of XP, but hey, if you are doing your 10 wins a week anyway, why waste it)

Hiding your character in Screenshots

Tricks3

Tricks4

Want to take a gorgeous screenshot, but your Character, for once, get’s in the way?

Hide her, or him!

Just type /console showplayer 0  – and nothing will stand in your way.

Can also be used for super hard mode in raids! 😛

How about you?

Do you have any nice tips to share that improve your daily adventures in WoW? 🙂

Have a joyful week everyone 🙂

Changing the position of your Character

The above two screenshots are taken right after each other. The only difference is the command /Console Actioncam on – which was introduced in Legion (I think?). It is said to provide a more immersive experience when questing – the camera adjusts to various situations on it’s own.

But for me, the best part is how it places your character on the side of the screenshot, leaving room for great pictures.

  1. Nice tips, thank you very much, i didn’t know most of them, i love to try hiding my characters for screenshots, this is really nice.

This is not that useful, when i’m in a long raid or dungeon and i need to go back to the entrance, i log off, play another alt for for few mintues, go back to that character and find him/her on the entrance of the raid, sometimes doing this save time instead of just walking back.

    1. Oh, no problem, glad you found them useful 🙂

Aah, that is very handy too! I didn’t even know it only requires a few minutes for it to work, thank you for sharing it 🙂

    1. Hah, neat, really? I had set it to Publish at this hour, so, coinsidence 🙂 Ooh, you posted something too, woot, thank you in advance for keeping me entertained during cozy couch time 😀

    1. Oh, it is so nice, I agree! Sometimes, I just can’t find the right angle, when I’m all zoomed in, so that’s where the hiding feature really helps.

Hmm, I’m not in game atm, so can’t double check, but the – I believe it’s “/Console actioncam on” might be able to help you, if just a tad. It does place your character on the side of the screen instead of the middle when you are in close up. 🙂

  2. Really good tips! Candidly, I didn’t know about a Trial Class Character. My tip would be that you can use Drums of Fury and the Goblin Glider Kit at level 20. I love taking the portal into the DMF and running down the path and then LEAPING off the hillside and gliding down to the Wheeee Carousel.

    1. Great you found them to be of use! 🙂

Oooh, really? Heh, the coinsidence; I JUST thought of the Glider when I was visiting the Faire the other day, running aaaaall the way down. I wondered if it would work there. It does, neat. Thank you for sharing 🙂

  3. That’s good to know about the Garrison Invasions! There’s a lookalike piece for one of the Warlords Druid Tier shoulders that drops from the Garrison Invasions reward cache, so now (as in, after August 14th :P) I might start trying to get it.

    1. PS.! If it’s been a while since you did Invasions to just do each once, to get an idea of what the invaders do. If I recall correctly, Botani is more of a pain to recieve high score on AFK because of the attacks to buildings, where the Shadowmoon one (Sorry not in game atm, so cant check the accurate names, you know which?) are far more forgiven and easy to breeze through. 🙂

It’s just, if you are going for the armor drop, you do need a certain score for a bag I think, right? If it’s just about completion, then you should be fine 🙂

  4. That really cool, dramatic featured image is totally photo bombed by those bunny ears. 🙂

I don’t know anything about pet battling. I do have a really cool Timeless Whelp that I got from Caverns of Time. Love that place.

To make a class trail character, do you need a character boost available, or can anyone make one at any time?

I didn’t think about my garrison at all during Draenor, and I don’t think about it now either. Doesn’t exist in my mind. 🙂

lol, those bunny ears again. I had a demon hunter in my last mythic+ group with them. Looked so ridiculous 🙂

I don’t think I’ve used the dreamwalk to help me in dungeons, I’ll have to remember that.

That falling flame item looks like fun, haven’t seen that before.

I wasn’t aware there was a hellfire portal in IF. I’ve just used the SW one.

That /console showplayer 0 is really helpful. I used it for the first time in a couple of my Suramar shots. I’ll have to try that actioncam as well. I’ve always wanted to be able to take screenies without the camera centered on your character. When I was playing the A Hat in Time game, there’s a camera that when you use it it pauses the game and lets you move the camera around freely, disconnected from your character. It’d be nice if that could be implemented into WoW somehow.

I can’t really think of any good tips off the top of my head. The only one that comes to mind is that there’s a caverns of time portal in Dalaran that makes it easy to get to southern Kalimdor, but everyone probably knows that already.

    1. Aw, look at you go all Alunaria-style-commentin’! (That’s a word) Thank you 🙂

I intended those bunny ears, and worked hard on a transmog that matched in colours – can’t you tell!?

      😛

Oh, that Timeless Whelp was quite hard to get once – I read. Not fond of Pet Battles?

Lol, I bet, Demon Hunter horns AND bunny ears?

Oh, that feature with the camera sounds so nifty. I would love to see more variety and player controlled options when it comes to the camera in WoW. Though I must admit, I am actually feeling sea sick if I play with the action cam on :/

Oh well, that’s a good tip too 🙂 I have an AddOn displaying all the boat rides (and where they sail to) including portals and where they port to on the map. We have so many ways of getting about these days, I lose track.

I have been thinking about challening myself to play one week without using a single portal…I wonder how that’ll go 🙂

  5. That’s a ‘wow’ 🙂

My 2 best would be travel advices, Ironforge to Stormwind is precious to all of my non-mages 🙂 Could be extremely handy during holidays that happen in Ironforge.

And both of my druids will gladly accept that teleport advice 🙂

  6. Great tips! Most I had no idea of.
The Tuskarr Fishing Net can apparently also catch a Sea Turtle mount! Very small chance, but still. I sent out a lot of missions for that during Legion, but no luck so far.
That Garrison invasion screenshot of Alu is so great! ❤

    1. Aw don’t worry, I have little time too, these days. Thank you for not being afk on your blog at least 🙂 Thank you, that’s a great tip, too! I want that Turtle Mount.

Hah, she IS rocking them bunny ears, ain’t she 😀

  7. Thank you thank you for the tip on the fishing net! The idea of fishing 100 big fish of each kind was so daunting that I pretty much said “forget that!”

Loved reading your tips and advice, great post all around.
